Accidental Ideas

(warning- fluffer post. you've been warned ;])

Sometimes, you just fool around with things, like CAW, never knowing what you're going to get. Sometimes you just think "to heck with inspiration!" and create whatever comes out of your head. This would be one of those moments.

Ironically, I'm much more proud of this picture of a barren world that I created in about 30 minutes than I have been with 99.9% of my other worlds that I have devoted hours and hours to.

This world won't be finished, but it will stay with me in my little game *cough*andmaybereleasedforpublicuseifpeopledon'tmindablankworld*cough*. I'm still searching for what I want in a world, but I have a feeling I'm getting closer.

I'm still working on the Dillard family's final chapter in SH. I can't say too much or else I'll spoil the plot but I will say this: the save file is now a spoiled brat that I have to devote an entire day to in order to get two or three usable pictures before it crashes. And I don't have an entire day. Sooo, it's a slow process, but it's pretty much completed. The hardest part of it all was waiting for them to grow up, I just had to do it the old-fashioned way. And because you all are such wonderful people, I don't feel bad for putting schoolwork before storytelling anymore. I haven't abandoned you guys, I swear. :) I don't think I ever could, actually. I love writing. It's a cheaper kind of therapy.

P.S. - How have you guys been? Do you guys have LN yet? Do ya like? Any quirky bugs I should know about?

  1. I do love that first screenshot! It's got a lot of character, but is still very simple -- I've always found more 'minimalist' settings to be beautiful.

You have much more diligence to creating a 'perfect world' than I ever would be able to have. I'm pretty content letting EA do the work for me, because if I was responsible for creating the world, it would probably take me months. I do hope that someday you eventually end up with something you're happy with, but if not, I hope that you're able to find something that's not half-bad. :)

I'm still not caught up on any of the blogs yet (I said I was going to be, but I've had less time than I thought the last few days), so I'm not sure what's up with the Dillard's, but I'm sure whatever plot is approaching will be great. I look forward to it!

LN - I'm with you in the Does Not Have compartment, but I think it's safe to say that it's about on bug-level with what Ambitions was like. Still, the patch seems to have cleared up a lot of issues (I noticed no more running bug!) so I'm not too worried for when I get the expansion. I'm super stoked for when I can finally get it, though! It looks like a lot of fun.

  2. Lovely pictures, I love the colors in the first shot!

I think I'm going through the same thing as you with CAW. I've got a world in the works that will be perfect for an idea I have, but I can't bring myself to work on it for long periods of time. I think it's a mix of laziness and lack of inspiration/interest. XP

Good luck with the Dillards, I hope the save file isn't too borked. But if it is...well a picture light/free update wouldn't be the end of the world. You know, whenever you have the time. :)

  3. Kaleeko - Minimalism is definitely something I'll be shooting for when I get back into CAW. The downtown area will be complicated and such (I'm trying to re-create the Bridgeport feel, even though I don't have the game yet :P), but I feel like the future save file won't bork on me if I keep the suburban, farm, etc. areas clean.

I'm going to be using the $50 gift card I received for my birthday to order both AMB and LN online, so hopefully I can get them soon! :D Since I do plan on creating the world that Kyle and the gang will be moving to, it'll still be awhile before season 2/gen 2 starts.

Umi - Thank you! :D The colors looked great to me as well, I just loved watching the sun set from the hilltop peak. Gah, I love that world. It makes my CPU happy.

Oooh, you're doing a world? It'll look awesome when inspiration finally hits ya- I just know it. :D Try not to pressure yourself (like I do), just let it come to you. And if nothing comes, just close it down.

Thanks! It's pretty darn borked, so it took about an hour to get the shots that I did, but it was worth it to give the story some closure...or did it? >:)

  4. Gonna try to recreate Bridgeport? Eek, that'll be quite the undertaking... But, if you keep it to a smaller world, I imagine you'll be able to tackle it in a reasonable amount of time. I have to wonder, how many people work on building the towns for the game...

I'm excited for you to be getting BOTH Ambitions and Late Night! Yay! That's really cool.

Sounds like it'll be a while until you get back to writing about the Dillard's, but I'll be here when you do. Good luck on your endeavors in building! :D

  5. I took a closer look at Bridgeport through LN blog posts, and Bridgeport is kinda...gloomy. Meh. Not sure I want to re-create it anymore, but I'm sure I'll have fun playing it anyway. lol, ye of too much faith. ;) The world I'm working on now is coming along nicely though, and I quickly whipped up a small world to play...a post on that is coming soon.

Yep! There was a problem with the order though, so the arrival will be delayed...hmm

It'll definitely be awhile before I write on the SH blog, but I'll be sure to keep you guys posted on their "other lives". :)
